Youssef El Mesmoudi, known as Ben Z, takes his artist name from his mother’s maiden name, Ben Zouina—literally “son of beauty” in Moroccan Dialect. Based in Montréal, he channels that heritage into high-energy electronic music, moving between euphoric progressive house, bass house, drum & bass and speed garage.

From Ten Plays for the End of the World by Cole Hayley A 3:52 extract from the “Iron Lung” scene, presented as part of the Concordia Theatre Department’s staged-reading series in April 2026. Sound design and composition by Ben Zouina (WAVEZ), created for the production and triggered live through QLab during rehearsals and performances. For this portfolio presentation, Ben selected the extract and synchronized his pre-existing production soundtrack to archival performance footage.
